Short-Term Projects (1 Year)

    • Develop a guidebook for South African students in Cuba, focusing on language, culture, and acclimatization for new students and a guide for returning final year students in South Africa.

  3. Professional Networking and Mentorship

    • Establish a mentorship program connecting senior alumni with new graduates.

    • Host quarterly webinars featuring topics like career development, research opportunities, and local healthcare challenges.

  4. Health System Support

    • Collaborate with local clinics to provide voluntary weekend services in high-demand areas.

    • Partner with government on initiatives such as NHI and NGOs for vaccination drives and maternal health initiatives.

Medium-Term Projects (2-5 Years)

  1. Research and Innovation Initiatives

    • Develop collaborative research projects focused on prevalent South African health issues, such as TB, HIV, and non-communicable diseases.

    • Establish a fund to support alumni-led healthcare research projects.

  2. Capacity Building for Healthcare Workers

    • Organize training workshops on primary healthcare delivery, emergency care, and public health management.

    • Develop a peer-education program to train community health workers in rural areas.

  3. Alumni Fellowship Program

    • Launch a fellowship program to place alumni in leadership roles within district hospitals.

    • Offer scholarships or grants for alumni pursuing postgraduate studies.

  4. Cultural Exchange Program Expansion

    • Facilitate exchanges between South African alumni and Cuban medical professionals to share knowledge and best practices.

    • Introduce South African healthcare personnel to Cuban primary healthcare systems through short-term observational visits.

Long-Term Projects (5-10 Years)

  1. Health Infrastructure Development

    • Partner with the government to establish satellite clinics in rural areas staffed by CAASA members.

    • Advocate for and contribute to the development of telemedicine facilities to improve healthcare access.

  2. Medical Training and Education Centers

    • Develop a CAASA training institute to offer CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses for healthcare professionals.

    • Create a pipeline program to prepare future South African students for medical training in Cuba.

  3. Comprehensive Research Hub

    • Establish a research institute focused on South African public health priorities, incorporating Cuban expertise and methodologies.

    • Publish a biennial report on alumni contributions to South African healthcare.

  4. Advocacy and Policy Engagement

    • Build a strong advocacy platform to influence national health policies using alumni expertise.
